Note 007 First Light can be demanding at higher presets and resolutions. If you’re near the minimum tier, start at 1080p + Low. An SSD is required.
Quick Navigation
Before you start
PC hardware and settings can vary widely, which can lead to unexpected issues. Before you work through the troubleshooting steps below, make sure your PC meets the minimum requirements to run 007 First Light: 007 First Light PC System Requirements .
Performance issues (low FPS, stutter, hitching, input lag)
Symptoms
Low FPS, uneven frame pacing, stutter when turning the camera, hitching while loading/streaming, or delayed input.
Try first (fast — do these in order)
- Restart your PC (clears stuck background tasks and driver hooks)
- Update Windows (install updates, then restart)
- Update your GPU driver (NVIDIA/AMD/Intel, then restart)
- Verify / Repair game files (Steam/Epic/Xbox app)
- Disable overlays (Steam, Discord, Xbox Game Bar, GPU overlay/recording)
If it continues (choose what matches your symptom)
A) Low FPS (consistently low)
- Lower Resolution first, then Shadows / Reflections / Volumetrics / View distance
- Close heavy background apps (browsers, streaming, capture tools)
- On laptops: plug in power and set Windows power mode to Best performance
B) Stutter/hitching (especially during loading, entering new areas)
- Confirm the game is installed on an SSD
- Ensure free disk space on the install drive
- Clear DirectX Shader Cache (Disk Cleanup → DirectX Shader Cache → restart)
C) Input lag / “floaty” controls
- Try enabling V-Sync or setting an FPS cap slightly below your monitor refresh rate
- Disable overlays/recording tools again (these often add latency)
D) Possible VRAM/RAM pressure
- Reduce resolution and texture-heavy settings
- If you see heavy hitching plus texture pop-in, this often indicates a VRAM limit
E) Performance drops after 10–30 minutes
- Check temperatures and throttling (overheating can cause sudden FPS drops)
- Remove overclocks (including GPU OC and RAM XMP/EXPO) for a stability test
If you contact Support for performance
- Your resolution + preset
- Where the stutter happens (loading/combat/cutscenes)
- Whether the game is installed on an SSD (and free space)
Startup / launch issues (won’t open, closes immediately, stuck launching)
Symptoms
Clicking Play does nothing, the game opens then closes, black screen on launch, or it returns to the desktop.
Try first (fast — do these in order)
- Restart your PC
- Update Windows (then restart)
- Update GPU driver (then restart)
- Verify / Repair game files
- Disable overlays (Steam/Discord/Xbox Game Bar/GPU overlay)
If it continues (most common causes)
A) Permissions / security software
- Try Run as administrator (Steam/Epic installs)
- Temporarily disable antivirus (test only). If it helps, add an exception for the game folder and launcher, then re-enable AV.
B) Launch arguments / injector conflicts
- Remove custom launch options (Steam/Epic)
C) Background conflicts (advanced)
- Perform a clean boot to identify a conflicting startup app/service
D) Last resort
- Reinstall the game
Crashes (crash to desktop, freezes, “stopped responding”)
Symptoms
Crashes on startup, during loading, or mid-session.
Try first (fast — do these in order)
- Verify / Repair game files
- Update GPU driver (then restart)
- Disable overlays
- Remove overclocks (GPU/CPU + RAM XMP/EXPO for testing)
- Restart your PC (if you haven’t since changes)
If it continues (match by crash pattern)
A) Crashes during gameplay
- Lower heavy graphics settings (resolution/shadows/reflections/volumetrics)
- Check temperatures / throttling
B) Crashes after longer play sessions
- Often heat or instability: retest at stock clocks, improve cooling/airflow
C) System-level fixes
- Set Windows Virtual memory (page file) to System managed size
- Check Event Viewer around the crash time (Application/System logs)
Advanced
- Clean reinstall GPU driver (vendor clean install option)
- BIOS update only if you’re comfortable and follow motherboard instructions
Connection / network issues (can’t connect, disconnects, high ping)
Symptoms
Can’t connect, frequent disconnects, rubber-banding, or unusually high ping.
Try first (fast — do these in order)
- Power cycle modem/router (unplug 30 seconds, reconnect)
- Use Ethernet (test wired to rule out Wi-Fi)
- Disable VPN/proxy
- Pause downloads/streams on your network
If it continues
A) Local network reset
- Flush DNS:
ipconfig /flushdns(Command Prompt as Admin), then restart PC - If multiple apps are affected: Windows Network reset
B) Firewall
- Ensure Windows Firewall allows the game and launcher
Advanced
- NAT / router configuration (only if you’re comfortable; follow router/ISP docs)
